Community in focus: education, health and citizenship with an interdisciplinary approach at IAES

Abstract

The IAES Extension Project: Knowledge and Citizenship in the Community aims to democratize access to knowledge in the areas of Dentistry, Psychology and Social Sciences, promoting an integrated approach to promoting oral health, emotional well-being and the exercise of citizenship. The project involves the academic and local community in actions that include free services, lectures, discussion groups and distribution of hygiene kits. The central proposal is interdisciplinary integration, providing students with training beyond technical education, with an emphasis on critical and social aspects, allowing them to apply their knowledge in practical situations and develop technical and socio-emotional skills. The project aims to strengthen the bond between Faculdade do Amazonas – IAES and the community, addressing topics such as mental health, prevention and citizenship in a humane manner. The actions, aimed at different age groups, include promoting self-care, health prevention and support for the elderly, reaffirming the College's commitment to social transformation. The project is aligned with the principles of the World Health Organization (WHO), which understands health as physical, mental and social well-being, and the Federal Constitution of 1988, which guarantees health as a universal right. The actions also include educational visits and health education campaigns, expanding access to information and strengthening ties between academia and the population.
